5 Minute Essay, have used this a few times and its worked really well. It indicates to me what the students have learnt and their understanding of the lesson
Group note taking at the end of the lesson, this also works quite well to give me feedback on the lesson and also to help the students to absorb and retain the information taught. My only criticism is that students are not really too happy to do this!
Keeping a reflective blog, have really enjoyed keeping a reflective blog. Its a great way of reflecting on experiments and I really like recording my CPD for future reference.
Peer evaluation activities, in my CertEd lessons last year I was encouraged to use peer assessment to help student to give feedback to each other during practical lessons. It worked really well in day to day classes as I found that students took a lot more notice of the feedback from their peers than myself. I also used a show that the students did last year as a peer assessed activity. The write up for this is also on my blog.
I had 2 personal objectives from the SE;
Use NLP to improve the language that I use with my students and to build a better rapport with my students, I am currently halfway through the NLP practitioners course and have already experienced myself using NLP language in my teaching / communicating with students
Develop mine and my students IT skills, this has been a great success. I have reviewed websites (also see blog) and encouraged student to use on line resources. I have also been able to encourage students to use their portals and their student emails to complete and email me work. This has worked really well and I am particularly pleased that I have a IT room for my class for an hour and a half a week.
