Please fill in section 1 (project outline) by September 30th 2008 and post it online, as a record for yourself and a resource for other teachers. Write as little or as much as you like and include key dates throughout. You can incorporate this information into your online CPD log for the Institute for Learning, so this must be completed individually.

Ø Review websites and plan experimental activities
ØIntroduce graphic organizers
Ø Experiment by setting learners research tasks and asking them to record their research into graphic organisers
ØDevelop my learners study skills (in particular improve their IT skills)
Ø Experiment by setting learners IT based activities
Ø Build learner confidence with the student portal by asking them to view it during many lessons and asking them to send a task / assignment / evaluation via their student email, early in the programme to encourage learners to use their student email.
ØUse blog as a reflective journal of teaching
Ø Use blog to record the outcomes of the experiments
Ø Use email journal to record notes on student attendance, punctuality and behaviour
ØUsing peer assessment to help learners to evaluate themselves effectively
Ø Experiment with peer assessment by asking learners to evaluate each others block at the end of every session where a formative assessment has take place

Why have you chosen this/these particular supported experiment(s)?
Build a better rapport with learners
To maintain a high Standard of Teaching and Learning in the classroom. Learners need to feel comfortable in their environment.
It is essential to ensure that you are not too strict and not too laid back
Improve retention of information (amongst learners)
To ensure that students achieve higher grades and complete assignment swiftly and easily
Produce better resources
To make sure that the information given to students is accurate and up to date.
Particularly in an area like hairdressing where the market is constantly changing
Introduce graphic organizers
So that learners may easily record their research and present it in an organised way
Develop my learners study skills (in particular improve their IT skills)
To help the students to complete their studies
Use blog as a reflective journal of teaching
To record what went well during a lesson and what did not.
To share information and to evaluate
Using peer assessment to help learners to evaluate themselves effectively
I believe as do many, that learners are much more likely to take notice of feedback if it is from other learners (or themselves), than from a teacher

What will the outcomes and benefits be for the students?
Effective communication, better retention of information and greater study skills. Teaching and Learning can be kept up to date, accurate, fun and interactive.

How will you measure these?
I will be evaluating the outcomes of the research and the experiments that I am setting myself. I will be able to measure the success in the form of improved retention of knowledge and study skills and hopefully improved student achievement and retention.

What do you hope to learn through this/these experiment(s)?
Ø Better ways to communicate with the learner
Ø Develop retention (of learners) and achievement
Ø Greater use of interactive materials
Ø How to engage learners (particularly younger)
Ø Strategies for helping student to retain knowledge
Ø How to improve teaching and learning
